Our Mission

"Carrying on the family tradition and sharing it with a wider community just makes me genuinely happy." - Naomi Kebble, Founder

Our Beginning

MIOU was born when our founder, Naomi Kebble, aspired to share the same premium-quality matcha from her grandparents' tea shop in Fukuoka, Japan with a wider range of people.

Living in Melbourne, Australia, Naomi soon realised that there was a scarcity of authentic Japanese matcha in the Australian market, with the most delicious products being limited to Japan’s domestic market. Using Naomi's grandparents' strong connections to artisan tea farmers, MIOU was established.

Tea Origins

Just like Naomi's grandparents, MIOU sources their tea from a village called Hoshinomura in Fukuoka Prefecture. Hoshinomura translates to village under the stars and is acclaimed for producing some of the finest teas in Japan.

Thanks to the rapport established by Naomi's grandparents with local tea farmers, MIOU maintains a close and consistent connection, visiting them several times a year.

Premium Quality

Their family's strong ties to renowned Japanese tea producers allows them to select only the highest quality matcha. Each tea leaf is hand-picked, then expertly processed to preserve its unique flavours and aromas.

Delicately nurtured, skillfully processed, and meticulously packaged – every product is designed to elevate your daily experience.

Origin of Hoshino Tea

Hoshino Village in the Yame region of Fukuoka is renowned for producing Japan's highest-quality Gyokuro (shaded green tea). The Hoshino River, flowing through the village from east to west, has created a fertile basin with abundant fog, making it an ideal area for cultivating premium matcha.

In 1989, a matcha factory was established, signifying a dedicated venture into matcha production. By 2007, a two-line tencha factory was founded, emphasising a commitment to achieving the highest quality. Today, boasting over 95 stone mortars, they meticulously grind premium matcha.
