What is Matcha?

Matcha (抹茶) is finely ground green tea (tencha), that has undergone a unique cultivation process involving intentional shading. The lack of sunlight slows down the process of photosynthesis, leaving an abundance of amino acids, such as L-theanine, in the tea leaves. L-theanine is known to promote relaxation and counteract any of the jitters often associated with caffeinated beverages.

Ensuring Authentic Matcha

True matcha must be crafted from shaded green tea leaves (tencha) using a specific processing method. Some companies mislabel powder made from lower-grade tea leaves that haven't undergone the unique cultivation techniques as matcha. To ensure authenticity, we strongly recommend buying from reputable sellers who adhere to correct labelling and sourcing standards.
